Merry Christmas Everybody
Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall?
It’s the time that every Santa has a ball
Does he ride a red nosed reindeer?
Does he turn up on his sleigh
Do the fairies keep him sober for a day?
So here it is merry Christmas
Everybody’s having fun
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun
Are you waiting for the family to arrive?
Are you sure you got the room to spare inside?
Does your granny always tell ya that the old songs are the best?
Then she’s up and rock ‘n’ rollin’ with the rest
So here it is merry Christmas
Everybody’s having fun
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun
What will your daddy do
When he sees your Mama kissin’ Santa Claus?
Ah ah
Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall?
Are you hoping that the snow will start to fall?
Do you ride on down the hillside in a buggy you have made?
When you land upon your head then you’ve been Slade
So here it is merry Christmas
Everybody’s having fun
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun
So here it is merry Christmas
Everybody’s having fun
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun
So here it is merry Christmas
Everybody’s having fun
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun
So here it is merry Christmas
Everybody’s having fun
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun
Listen to the song

About the carol Merry Christmas Everybody
“Merry Christmas Everybody” is a Christmas song by the British rock band Slade, written by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea. It was released in 1973 and became one of the most successful Christmas songs in the United Kingdom. The song’s energetic glam-rock sound and memorable chorus helped it become a lasting part of British Christmas celebrations.
The song celebrates the excitement and fun of Christmas, describing family gatherings, holiday traditions and the joyful atmosphere surrounding the season. It captures the feeling of people coming together, enjoying themselves and creating memories. Unlike quieter Christmas songs, it has a lively and celebratory tone that encourages listeners to sing along.
Slade’s performance style gives the song its distinctive energy, with powerful vocals and a strong rock arrangement. Its connection to Christmas comes from its focus on celebration, togetherness and the familiar experiences many people associate with the holiday. Decades after its release, “Merry Christmas Everybody” continues to be played every December and remains one of the most recognizable Christmas rock songs.
